What is good and what is bad when it comes to certain ingredients
When it comes to products, you depend on the labels to tell you what’s really in the product, but there are some things on the labels you just don’t know how bad they are for you and the environment. Here are some of the most popular ingredients used in everyday products and how much of an issue they can cause for your health in the long run. Because, remember, it isn’t the short term effects that are troublesome, it’s the long term effects that a lot of people just aren’t sure about.
1. Mineral Oil: Mineral oil is cheap to manufacture and a lot of companies use it because of that very reason, it’s cheap. But, it’s also cheap on your skin as well. It forms an oily film over the skin that locks in toxins into the body and sweating out toxins is a normal body function. The skin can’t breathe and therefore it keeps oxygen away from the skin as well. It is very pore-clogging and can be leading to breakouts on your skin currently.
2. Petrolatum: This is a by-product of petroleum which has been manufactured one way to be used in a car and another way to be used for cosmetics purposes. It is greasy and often used industrial in make up and even lip balm and sticks. It clogs pores as well.
3. Lanolin: This may seem like an okay product but actually is a major allergen. If you are currently using anything with this in the label, you may want to consider a change.
*Natural and Sustainable Living Tip: Using natural products is the best way to insure you are living a greener lifestyle. Stick with avocado oils and olive oils instead of mineral oil and shea, mango and kokum butter instead of man-made butters which can clog pores.
