Using those Cardboard Boxes for the Greater Good
Four years ago my husband and I packed up our three bedroom, two bath home in Arkansas and took off for Oregon with about 40-50 cardboard boxes filled with our valuables. When we finally got to Oregon we were in a house and ended up moving once more, and then again. With all the moving we ended up with quite a few cardboard boxes. Of course the cardboard can be recycled but, getting rid of them just didn’t seem like a good idea. And I am glad I didn’t end up sending them to the recycle, because of our move once more planned for the summer of 2010. I don’t seem to have as much stuff, so what to do with the ones I don’t need?
The Fold School offers free patterns to use on cardboard boxes to create the most elaborate and neatest conversation pieces for your children. They offer a pattern to create a chair, stool and even a rocker straight out of cardboard. The patterns are all free and can be used repeatedly. The only money they ask for is donations which go to help the cause behind the Fold School mission.
The sample pattern can help get your started and you can access it here. Then view the step-by-step instructions to create the simple sample pattern.
Once you get the sample pattern down, you can move onto the chair, the stool and the rocker.
*Natural and Sustainable Living Tip: The patterns above are great things to have a child’s birthday party as a conversation piece and when the party is over, make sure every child gets to take one home with them when they leave.
