More on protecting or watersheds

Along with the watershed post from before this is a quick guide to help you protect them even more. We all live in a watershed. It’s the place where everything is connected from forests to fields to factories to houses and you can do small steps to help protect everything and anything living in these watersheds. Here are some tips to keep in mind as well.
1. If you live along the banks of waterways, never plant lawn or grow seed for a lawn right up next to the banks. Allow a buffer zone to the water.
2. Try to keep trees and shrubs as is on your landscape and plant newer ones as often as possible.
3. Mark drains near your home with a sign that states that they run into streams. Get with your city mayor and have them okay the painting of the drains throughout the town as well. If you have to get a petition signed then do it.
4. Plant pest resistant and disease resistant plants along the waterways.
5. When camping use earth-friendly products and use them when you aren’t camping as well. They are better for the environment and your health.
6. Sweep your driveway and patio instead of spraying it. You will burn calories and save on water at the same time.
7. Fence your livestock away from watersheds and make sure their droppings won’t run into the waterways as well.
