Know Your Green
Of course the majority of us want to live a greener lifestyle and have either purchased reading material or DVDs or CDs to learn more about how to change, but what are some of the words that are used? Some of them are self explanatory, but here is a more detailed listing of the most popular “green” wording and what they mean.
1. Alternative/Renewable Energy: This is energy that has little ecological impact on the earth. This describes energy such as what the wind or sun or even water can produce. Most energy providers offer such alternative energy sources, check with them to see what your best option is.
2. Biodegradable: It is easily broken down without the use of harmful chemicals or over processing.
3. Your Carbon Footprint: With every energy or products we use come carbon dioxide or greenhouse gases, such as heating your how or driving your car. Ways to offset these uses is to recycle, keep garden organically or even buying products that are made locally. If you use more carbon offsets than you make in carbon footprints you become carbon neutral.
4. Certified USDA Organic: These foods are at least 95% organic which mean they are grown without the use of toxic or even synthetic materials.
5. Sustainability: This is a balance between the environment, the economy, agriculture, industry and even our future generations. It is better for the environment and our overall health.
*Natural and Sustainable Living Tip: Keeping and having a health back yard is simple. Just plant native plants in a section of your backyard. This will reduce the lawn that needs cutting and invites wildlife to explore your yard. If you leave your lawn clippings in the yard it will help replenish the nutrients as well.
