Keep your Indoor Air Clean this Holiday Season
When the holidays hit, many of us hit the air freshen. You know, the commercialized asthma inducing chemicals ion a can. It is estimated that 75% of American households are using air freshens daily and the amounts is even higher during the holiday season because of the visitors in and out of the house during this season.
A recent report on an investigation that found 12 of the common air freshens, even those that state they state they are natural or unscented on the label, contained hormone-disrupting chemicals. Many people use these air fresheners without even thinking what could be inside the liquid being sprayed all around their homes and even in the baby room or play rooms.
This holiday season, instead of purchasing a quick fix spray that could be doing more than freshening the air, open some windows. You might be cooking in the kitchen this season anyway where the food cooking in the oven will cause a rise in the heat and with many people around it could make the area even hotter, so why not crack a window. Turn the heater off and open a few windows with people will be gathering as well. The air from outside coming in will cause a fresher smell and help keep everyone comfortable as well. For other air scent issues that can’t be fixed with an open window, make your own spray by using essential oils. Mix about 40 drops of your favorite essential oil with a bit of water in a spray bottle and shale well before each use. This is a safer and less toxic way to freshen your air.
*Natural and Sustainable Living Tip: Install an environmental monitoring system in your home that can monitor the water and electricity use. If you are on solar panels, this will still help you keep track and see exactly where you usage is going.
