record.jpgYour music act that is. Get started living the eco, musical life.

Greening your music:
Most CDs, “tapes”, and even 45s are made from unsustainable materials. If you are a musician and you play an instrument, mainly a guitar, there are ways to green your music and your instruments. Plastic is the main producer of the carbon footprint and even some of the woods that are used to make the instruments, may come from an unsustainable forest. How to help this? Look for products that carry the Forest Stewardship Council seal. This is an organization whose seal of approval ensures best practices were used in cultivating the wood used on your instruments. Choose a guitar or other instrument or product that incorporates recycled wood or sustainable materials. Like a hemp guitar by Mada or First Act’s bamboo electric. If these don’t suit you fancy, go one step above and beyond by choosing to buy a vintage guitar or even vintage records and music.

Reuse it, Reduce it, and then Record it all. If you plan on marketing your tunes, you will need to find a studio that follows your same practices. Finding a studio that is all solar powered is a great way to start. An all solar-powered studio is one that offsets energy usage, and quite possibly one that relies on LED and compact fluorescents whenever possible. Tree Sound Studios in Norcross, Georgia uses all of these and even cultivates their own herb and vegetable garden .

Maybe with these changes, you will discover how easy it is to take a step closer to the eco-stardom even with your music. Look out American Idol, there’s a new musician and singer on the block.

*Natural and Sustainable Living Tip: Take an eco trip. Americans are taken eco trips more and more and in these trying times of the world, you may want to consider one, before it’s all gone. Eco vacations are trips that are taken to visit areas of amazing natural; wonders while helping to conserve them and improve the life of the locals in these areas. Ways to stay with the eco-consciousness of the rip is to hire men with canoes than ride in a tour bus, or a gas-guzzling boat. Stay in local lodges, bed and breakfasts rather than a resort. Plan an eco-trip here.
