Eco-Friendly Card Options
This holiday season many of us will be sending out Christmas cards and pictures to loved ones and friends. But, what kind of paper are those holiday cards printed on? And, if those cards are printed on good paper, does the ink that is printed on the cards allow the cards to be recycled later? If you can’t answer these questions or don’t have a clue what your holiday cards and letters are made from here are two alternatives that are better for the environment and won’t cost you a lot either.
• Smock Paper: These cards are made from bamboo which is one of the earth’s sustainable plants. The prints are made with vegetable inks that have low-VOC content as well. They make great card choices for any occasion. From holidays to birthdays and even thank you cards.
• Great Elephant Poo Poo Paper Company: The name first of all is so silly, but they make the very best and unique paper products. These cards are above and beyond the greenest cards EVER. The company collects elephant dung and creates the most fabulous cards. A portion of the proceeds they gain from selling these cards also go to help all the elephant welfare groups throughout. An elephant’s fibrous diet makes a great mixture to create tree-less paper products.
*Natural and Sustainable Living Tip: There is millions of gallons of gas that is lost through vapors into the air each year due to the gas caps being loose on the car or even missing. To help keep this from becoming a problem with your car and the loss of gas into the atmosphere, make sure you tighten you gas cap securely after filling up and never top-off your gas tank when filling. Carbon emissions are lost through the air during this process and you don’t gain all that much more gas either. If you gas cap is missing, replace it right away.
