5 Things You Can Do Right Now To Help The Environment
1. Schedule an energy audit to learn about reducing your home’s power consumption (call your local energy provider). The savings will benefit the environment and your bank account.
2. Turn off the faucet when you brush your teeth. Running the water continually for as little as two minutes can waste up to three gallons.
3. Buy whatever you can in bulk-food, drinks, toliet paper, paper towls, even socks.
4. Substitute paper napkins for cloth ones. It’s an easy way to cut back on your family’s paper waste and spruce up your dinner table at the same time.
5. Run only full loads in your dishwasher and washing machine. Anything less is a waste of time and energy-yours and the environment’s.
6. A cellphone charger uses about the same amount of electricity whether or not it’s in use, so remember to unplug after you finish charging.
7. Visit Wireless Recycling to learn how you can recycle your old cell phone. It’s an easy process-with over 40,000 drop-off centers nationwide-and it’s tax deductible too.
8. Turn off all lights and appliances when not in use. Putting your household electronics, such as TVs and computers, on standby saves little, if any, energy.
*Natural and Sustainable Living Tip: American Recycles Day falls on November 15th every year. For more information, and to learn how you can participate, visit America Recycles Day.
